Headwinds for growing cybercrime

eCAPITAL NEWS
The number of hacker attacks on companies has reached alarming proportions in recent years, and the monetary damage to the German economy has doubled in the past two years.

According to the digital association Bitkom, this now amounts to 223 billion euros. More and more attacks on companies and administrations are becoming public knowledge and have immense social consequences. In July of this year, the first cyber disaster in Germany was declared in the Anhalt-Bitterfeld district.

How can we protect ourselves from future attacks? Numerous researchers, students and start-ups in Bochum are on their way to finding answers to this question. Companies such as ESCRYPT or VMRay, the Horst-Görtz-Institute and the Max-Planck-Institute and others are the reasons why Bochum is a leading location in the field of IT security. eCAPITAL’s Managing Partner Willi Mannheims has known many of the responsible people there for many years and there is close cooperation between companies, institutes and eCAPITAL, not least in the context of the eCAPITAL Cybersecurity Fund. In an extensive article in the FAZ, Jonas Jansen introduced the Bochum location, eCAPITAL and the people behind it. You can read the entire article here (only in German).
